Aspects of Lohia’s Life
Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia was a key figure in India’s freedom movement and socio-political reform. He joined Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha March in 1921 and led protests against British colonial policies. After earning his Ph.D. in Germany, Lohia co-founded the Congress Socialist Party in 1934 and became its first secretary. He faced multiple arrests for his outspoken advocacy, including his call to boycott government institutions and his article “Satyagraha Now.” Active in the Quit India Movement, he endured imprisonment and torture. Post-independence, Lohia advocated for India’s nuclear program and sparked controversy with his pamphlet “25000 Rupees a Day.” His relentless work for justice and reform left a lasting impact until he died.
